The world of work has been changing dramatically since the late 1980s. In addition to the structural shift from an industrial to a service-based society, it was above all the privatisation of state-owned enterprises in the GDR after 1990 that brought about profound changes to the working and living lives of many people. There has been much debate about the outcomes and consequences of these changes.
