The housing shortage is nothing new in Potsdam. The two residential areas of Drewitz (development began in 1988) and Kirchsteigfeld (development began in 1993) are clearly visible in the aerial photograph. As you can clearly see, they are based on different urban planning concepts. Yet they are united by the desire to create a small, self-sufficient town. But has this been achieved?

With the reunification of Germany, consumption on a larger scale became possible. After years of scarcity, many residents of Potsdam bought new furnishings. Old items were disposed of. The artist Hubert Globisch captured this in 1991 during a bulky waste collection.
